It was quite a change in scenery as I arrived from the training camp in Mexico to Carrera, Italy for Team Red, Melges 32 sailing- I left the sunny, hot Mexico for 8 degrees and raining!

On the first day we sailed 2 legs of the course before a large wind shift caused the race to be abandoned. After this happened twice we were then sent ashore. However, on the second day the sun shone and the weather warmed up (only slightly though!) and we completed four races in a variety of conditions. After a disappointing first race we got it together for a 2, 1, 1.

On the Saturday night Luca  [Lalli, Melges 32 World Champion] finally celebrated being crowned World Champion in San Francisco last September by throwing an amazing party in a local night club. The photo below is his Melges 32 in the water lite up like a Christmas tree... it looked amazing!

The final day was back to being cold and wet again and after a 3, 2 we could only be beaten by one boat if they won (we were next to last). It all seemed quite easy until we started too early and had to go back….. We got back in to it with the right boat behind us finishing 4th while they were 8th. All in all it was a great regatta for Team Red and it was nice to sail with the full strength squad and be right where we need to be.

I've been in Palma with fellow Team Volvo for life sailors for four days now and there's been some great Laser sailing and a bit of cycling with the boys. We even saw the Saxo bank [cycling] team and Alberto Contador (2007 Tour de France winner) out training this morning, we rode straight past them…..(the other way)

It's nice being out in Palma again as it's quite easy living and good for training. There are quite a few other Laser sailors out here at the moment so the training is pretty good. I'm here until Friday then it's back home for the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show on Saturday. Catch my Laser coaching talk on Saturday afternoon on the Volvo RYA Youth stand, F38 West Hall.

I’m now on Twitter and have a new face book page so check them out……http://on.fb.me/hObp95 and http://twitter.com/paulgoodisongbr
