It’s been a mad couple of weeks’ training, really full on, but the great thing is I’m still making good gains... a couple of days ago I recorded new personal bests on some of the bike stuff we do in the gym and my strength numbers are still going up too. I’m out on the water about three times a week at the moment and it’s going to be like this until I head out to Perth for the ISAF Worlds on at the end of November. I’m feeling really good and excited about how it’s going.
I seem to have spent a lot of time in London recently!
First of all we had the launch of the Volvo Sailing app, which all the Team Volvo sailors attended at Covent Garden, then a few days later we hada special event- British Sailing Olympians at the Apple Store in Regent Street. You can download the podcast from the evening on iTunes here http://bit.ly/trmDCr
Team Volvo sailors Ben Ainslie, Paul Goodison, Nick Dempsey and Helena Lucas talk through some of their favourite features that can be found on the Volvo Sailing APP
That was a cool, relaxed event where people got to ask us loads of questions about Olympic sailing. I’m also a massive Mac geek so I loved it! It’s great that as 2012 gets closer we get the chance to go to events like this and help people understand a bit more what Olympic sailing is all about and how it works.
Then last week me and Sarah went to see Noel Gallagher and his new band at the Hammersmith Apollo, which was amazing! Sarah’s mum did really well to get tickets as they sold out almost immediately, but as a massive, massive Oasis fan for forever, it was pretty cool to get to see him play in a smaller venue like that. He did about half and half of Oasis classics and some of his good new tunes, so it was a good night.
I’m really excited to be going over to Alicante with Paul Goodison and the guys from Volvo on Friday for the start of the Volvo Ocean Race this weekend. Hopefully we will get to be amongst the thick of it all even though, with it being the the day before the start of the race, the crews may be a bit too busy for us to actually get on a boat and have a nose around! I can’t wait to be out on a RIB getting up close to the action. This race is a big deal for these guys; it’s not just a race, sometimes it’s as basic as just surviving.
Sarah and I were also really pleased to be able to announce a couple of weeks ago that Thomas is going to have a little brother or sister.
We are really happy and the baby is due in early March, which in terms of events and training will actually be good timing! The 2012 RS:X Worlds in Cadiz aren’t until the end of that month so it is another thing for us to really look forward to next year.
