London 2012 Olympic Silver Medallist Luke, is a charismatic Scottish sailor who is one of the most talented 470 helms in the world. He has shown unwavering determination despite multiple set backs in his professional campaign. Former crew Joe Glanfield left the campaign due to lack of funds and then Luke had to deal with the blow of friend and crew Elliot Willis being diagnosed with cancer.
Luke’s new partnership with Chris Grube has seen the duo cram four years worth of training and racing into a few months in preparation for Rio 2016. Luke and Chris had impressive performances out in Rio finishing a respectable 5th. The duo are now looking to continue their regattas together.
Chris Grube, also known as Twiggy because of his tall frame, recently joined Luke as the British Sailing Team’s 470 Men’s crew. Chris has a strong background in competitive sailing having narrowly missed selection for London 2012; he competed on the shores of Rio with Luke with an impressive top five finish.
The partnership has been a successful one so far with a fifth place at the 2016 World Championships in Argentina and bronze at the Sailing World Cup Weymouth and Portland in June.
